Vintage 1970s Missy House of Canada Aqua Botanical Appliqué Zip-Front Maxi Dress
A vintage 1970s maxi dress by Missy House of Canada, made in Canada from medium weight polyester in saturated aquatic shades of aqua, turquoise, teal and deep blue. The closely fitted bodice is covered in an abstract botanical print combining marbled colour, leaves, and organic, pebble-like forms. Long, slim sleeves continue the pattern, while a raised waist seam introduces the contrasting cream skirt.
A zipper runs from the top of the collar almost the entire length of the dress. Worn partially open, it creates a deep V-shaped neckline framed by a wide pointed collar. Fastened completely at the neck, the collar becomes a dramatic tall funnel shape.
Below the waist, the cream skirt is accented with a wide panel of the aqua print which follows the centre-front zipper, then extends outward through individually shaped leaf appliqués secured with visible zigzag stitching. The same printed fabric spreads across the lower edge, creating an ornate botanical border around the front hem.
The back pairs the fully patterned bodice with a largely uninterrupted cream skirt. This contrast allows the elaborate front panel and appliqué work to remain the focal point. Fully lined and beautifully finished, the dress combines the ease of 1970s polyester with an imaginative use of pattern and appliqué.

Excellent. The full-length front zipper remains functional from the neckline, but a previous owner hand-stitched its lower end closed. The dress can still be opened sufficiently for dressing and the collar can be worn open, partially fastened or fully zipped. The zipper no longer separates completely at the bottom. The hand stitching is visible on close inspection and has been photographed for clarity. No other significant stains, holes or structural damage were noted. The appliqués, printed panels and lining remain well preserved. The original label displays light age-related wear but remains legible. Please review all photographs carefully for the zipper alteration, condition, print placement, appliqué work and colour. |
