Vintage 1970s Andrew Stewart Scottish Mohair-Wool Plaid Knee Length Pencil Skirt
A vintage 1970s skirt by Andrew Stewart, woven in Scotland from a tactile blend of mohair and wool. The oversized plaid combines broad blocks of powder blue and warm camel with bands of olive brown, charcoal and soft grey. A mohair halo rises above the woven surface, blurring the boundaries between the colours and giving the structured pattern an almost painterly softness.
Designed to sit at the natural waist, the skirt is closely shaped through the waist and hips before falling into a gently tapered pencil silhouette. Its 24.5-inch length will fall around or below the knee on many frames.
The exterior waistline has a clean, uninterrupted finish, while a wide grey petersham facing reinforces the waistband from within. A concealed metal zipper at the side is secured with an additional metal hook-and-bar fastening. The skirt is fully lined in slate-blue fabric, allowing it to sit smoothly over the body while preventing the textured wool and mohair from resting directly against the skin.
Substantial yet wonderfully soft, this is a fantastic example of Scottish textile craftsmanship and richly textured tailoring associated with 1970s fashion. Brown belt is shown for styling purposes and is not for sale/included.

No significant moth damage, holes, stains or repairs were noted. The metal side zipper, waistband fastening, petersham facing and lining remain present and well preserved.
