Vintage 40's Green Full Length Japanese Kimono

A beautifully patterned vintage Japanese kimono, believed to date from the 1940s and made from lightweight silk with a subtle woven texture and soft lustre.

The color moves through shades of forest green, jade, sage and pale mint, broken by ivory bands with softly blurred, brushstroke-like edges. Stylized flowers and leafy branches travel across the fabric in loose, linear outlines, punctuated by small dark-red stamen accents at the centres of the blossoms.

Constructed from traditional straight panels, the kimono has a long, open-front silhouette with an extended collar that continues almost to the hem. Wide sleeves fall to approximately three-quarter length when worn, creating the characteristic fluid, architectural shape.

The kimono has no built-in fastening and may be worn open or wrapped and secured with an obi or sash. The red scarf shown in several photographs was used for styling and is not included.

It is fully lined in pale cream fabric, transitioning to a warm peach tone through the lower interior. At 58.5 inches long, it falls close to the ankle or floor depending on the wearer’s height.

Condition
Good. The kimono was dry-cleaned before listing. There are several small moth nibbles and narrow areas of surface loss concentrated along the right side of the neckline and upper shoulder. Additional small holes and dark marks are present on the lower interior lining.  A few faint brownish spots and areas of discolouration remain on the outer silk, most visible against the lighter cream and pale-green sections. These flaws have been photographed in detail and should be considered consistent with the garment’s age. Please review all photographs carefully for the kimono’s condition, colour, pattern placement and construction.
