Rare Vintage 1980s Soo Yung Lee Gold Metallic Silk Butterfly Three-Piece Set

A 1980s three-piece ensemble by Soo Yung Lee in featherweight silk woven with fine metallic gold threads is an amazingly versatile addition to your wardrobe. Can be worn together or separately, giving you so many ways to style it.

The warm antique-gold silk is printed with a collage of butterflies, moths, beetles and abstract botanical forms in rust red, coral, orange, ivory, taupe, chocolate brown and black. Fine vertical metallic stripes run through all three pieces, varying in density to create shimmering bands.

The narrow-strapped camisole has a straight neckline and a softly shaped body that opens into a short, flared peplum. Bands of metallic striping emphasize the neckline and waist, while larger insect and foliage motifs decorate the lower section. The coordinating trousers have a fitted waistband with gathers below it, creating relaxed volume through the hips and thighs before the legs taper toward the printed ankle borders. They fasten at the side with a metal YKK zipper and hook and eye and have a concealed side-seam pocket.

The outer layer has a boat neckline secured by a button at the left shoulder, exceptionally wide three-quarter sleeves and a long, asymmetrically draped silhouette. It can be worn buttoned or opened at the shoulder and allowed to fall diagonally across the body, revealing the matching camisole beneath.

All three pieces are unlined to retain fluidity and subtle transparency. Wear the complete ensemble for maximum impact or separate the camisole, trousers and kaftan for more understated styling.

Soo Yung Lee was a Korean born, New York City-based fashion designer who designed for the Iconic Pierre Cardin prior to starting her own label.
