Vintage 1960s Tregos Westwear Chenille Tapestry Carpet Coat

An extraordinary 1960s statement coat by Trego’s Westwear, made in Woodward, Oklahoma. The heavyweight chenille fabric has a soft, dimensional pile and is covered in vivid vertical bands of zigzags, squares, dots and stylized floral motifs. Black grounds the bright palette of deep pink, red, orange, mustard yellow, and brown.

Versatile convertible collar can be fully fastened to create a tall funnel collar, worn with the upper button open or folded down. Dark brown molded basketweave leather and plastic buttons secure the front, while two angled welt flat pockets are incorporated into the patterned fabric. The coat is fully lined in lustrous satin with softly variegated bronze, olive and brown tones.

Trego’s Westwear was a Woodward, Oklahoma manufacturer known for Western-cut clothing. Oklahoma historical material traces the company’s development to the mid-1930s, while its trademark record documents use of the Trego’s Westwear name from 1945.
