Rare Vintage 1980s Edith Strauss Black Silk Metallic Polka-Dot Midi Dress

A luminous 1980s dress by celebrated Canadian designer Edith Strauss, made in Canada from sheer black silk woven with metallic blue and gold polka dots.

The surplice bodice creates a flattering V-neckline, framed by sheer elbow-length flutter sleeves. An elasticated waist gathers the fabric through the body and is finished with its original matching tie belt.

The softly gathered skirt falls to a below-the-knee midi length and is edged in delicate black lace. The alternating metallic dots catch the light as the fabric moves, shifting between cobalt blue, gold and warm coppery reflections.

The sheer outer dress has an easy pull-on construction and comes with its original separate Edith Strauss black slip. The shorter slip creates an opaque foundation while preserving the transparency of the sleeves, neckline and lower skirt.

Edith Strauss was an important figure in Canadian fashion active in Canadian fashion design from 1947 to the 1990's, whose designs were recognized for their wearability, quality and use of luxurious fabrics. Her work was sold internationally, including at Saks Fifth Avenue.
