Vintage 1960s - 1970s Hudson Bay Company Beige Suede & Crochet Belted Vest
Late 1960s to early 1970s vest from the Bay by Hudson Bay Company, made in Canada from supple sand-beige suede and tonal crochet.
Individual suede panels are joined and bordered with textured acrylic crochet, creating narrow openwork bands to emphasize a long silhouette. Wider crochet sections cross the shoulders and waist, adding texture and flexibility while allowing glimpses of the layer worn beneath.
The sleeveless upper body has deeply cut armholes, a plunging V-neckline, and seven crochet-covered buttons that fasten through coordinating loops along the open front, allowing the vest to be worn completely buttoned or left open. One is missing the inner button part. A long acrylic wool braided tie belt wraps around the waist and finishes with two substantial yarn tassels. It may be knotted at the front, side or back to adjust the shaping and draw attention to the wide openwork waistband.
The vest falls to hip length with rounded front corners and is unlined, leaving the suede and crochet construction visible inside. Has patina'ed beautifully resulting in soft suede that has a lot of life left. Throw it on for a casual outfit, or boho it up, your way!
